In 2009, the media extensively covered a debate as to whether the BBC should allow the BNP to be involved in one of its Question Time programmes. The decision was yes and the party leader, Nick Griffin, appeared on the programme: Students could investigate the role of the BBC as a media outlet and discuss the extent to which the BBC is, or should be, ‘value free’.
