Sociology students come from a variety of different backgrounds – educational and otherwise. It may be that you have learners who have been fortunate enough to study the subject at GCSE or as part of another level 2 course. If this is the case, they will already have a grasp of some of the key debates within the discipline, for example 'what makes us human?'
